Start The New Year With Money Saving Tips!
Today I’m sharing with you 7 ways to save money on groceries! This is the the area that I feel like I can really make a difference in our budget. Let’s be honest, even if you’re eating fast food, eating out is insanely expensive these days. We have been eating at home at least 5 to 6 nights a week and it makes a huge difference in our budget. Here are my favorite ways to save money when grocery shopping.
Buy meat on sale. Meat is expensive! So when I find meat on sale I buy as much as my budget will allow. This way I typically shop my freezer for my meals each week rather than shopping for meat at the grocery store and paying full price.
Shop at a bargain, grocery store like Aldi. I am always amazed at how little I pay for an entire bag of produce at Aldi. Sure, you have to pay for a cart and bag your own groceries, but the savings are well worth it!
Shop at the grocery store with a list. The best way to do this is to have a meal plan for your week. Do you struggle with creating a meal plan, I have a course for you! You can check that out HERE. Going into the store without a list is a sure way to overspend and then not even end up with groceries to cover your meals.
Be flexible with your menu plan. For example, I might put down that I am cooking roast, but I will not specify my side because I want to wait and see what is on sale at the grocery store. This allows me to shop my fridge first and then shop the sales at the store.
Use an ingredient more than once. Example -if you’re buying a large bunch of fresh asparagus or a bag of brussel sprouts, use them in more than one meal so they don’t go to waste.
Utilize your freezer. So many things can be frozen. We aren’t an onion loving family, but some recipes need that partial onion for the flavor. I will chop up and entire onion, use what I need and pop the rest in an a plastic bag in the freezer. I do the same with chilies that I use for tocos. If you have veggies that are going bad before you can use them, chop them up and put them in the freezer. Frozen carrots are great in a hearty soup.
Order grocery pick up for the items you cannot find at the bargain store. For example, if my bargain grocery store does not have the face wash or deodorant that I need, I will order this from Walmart or Target. This keeps me from going in the store and making unnecessary purchases. I also use Walmart+ for delivery to keep to my list. You can save on your first Walmart+ order with THIS link.
