Reset Your Home In 4 Weeks - Week 1 The Kitchen

Was the last of half of 2021 as crazy for you as it was for me? What if I told you that you can reset your home and start the year off with a decluttered and clean home in only 4 weeks? I believe you can!

Over the next four weeks we are going to embark on this challenge together. You can choose to do the entire challenge or choose a few tasks each week to complete. You could even set a time for 30 minutes a day and see how much you can accomplish.

Let’s get started!

This week we are going to be focusing on the kitchen. I will also add the dining area to this zone. I have broken this down into 5 zones, this way you can do one each week day. Save this graphic to keep you on track.

Zone 1: Declutter

  • Go through each cabinet and drawer and remove all items that you have not used in 6 months or anything that is broken or that you no longer need.

  • Clear all surfaces of unused items or things that need to be stored in a different place. Clear counter top surfaces make your kitchen look clean and tidy!

Zone 2: Cabinet doors, baseboards, blinds

  • Wipe down all of your cabinet doors and drawers.

  • Vacuum and wipe all baseboards.

  • Vacuum and wipe all blinds.

  • Vacuum and wipe windows.

Zone 3: Appliances

  • Refrigerator: Empty contents and wipe down shelving. Dispose of any expired items. Wipe down the outside (including the top!)

  • Oven: Clean your oven according to it’s directions. I have a self clean option on my ovens. You can start this early in the day and then wipe them out when they have cooled.

  • Microwave: Take out the glass plate and wash it. Wipe out the inside of the microwave.

  • Hood vent: My hood vent is on the bottom of my microwave. Take out all filters and wash them. Wipe this area down.

  • Stove top: Deep clean your stove top. Remove knobs, if possible, and wash.

  • Dishwasher: Take our your filter and wash it. Run a empty cycle with only a cup of baking soda sprinkled in the bottom. Wash a second empty cycle with a cup of vinegar. Wipe down your dishwasher, paying close attention to the sides of the doors.

Zone 4: Furniture, light fixtures, and vents

  • Dust and wipe down all kitchen and dining furniture.

  • Move the furniture and vacuum and mop underneath it.

  • Wipe down all light fixtures.

  • Vacuum all vents.

  • If you have a ceiling fan, dust it as well.

Zone 5: Food storage/Pantry

  • Wipe down all shelving in your pantry or food storage area.

  • Discard all expired food items.

  • Organize your pantry into zones.

Last but not least,

While this may seem like a large undertaking, I believe this can be done in 30 minutes or less each day if we really work hard and fast. Ask for help! Get your family involved or ask for help from a friend. You will reap the rewards of your hard work each time you are in your kitchen!
