My Morning Routine
Many of you have asked, and so today I am sharing my current morning routine with you. I say “current” because my morning routine has changed over the years and I’m certain it will continue to change. Next week I will be sharing tips for you to create your ideal morning routine.
My morning routine is not extensive because if I can pull a task from my morning routine to the night before in my evening routine I do. The mornings are times when things can go wrong. You can wake up late or someone can wake up in a mood that isn’t fabulous and totally derail your morning! (Any other Mamas feel me?)
This is what I do each morning:
Coffee - Let’s be honest, I go to bed thinking about coffee. This is the first thing I do when I come down the stairs each morning, I head to the coffee machine.
Planner - Throughout the morning I have my planner nearby. I check to see what I need to do and jot down anything else that has popped into my mind. I also keep this close during my Bible reading and devotion because I find that writing down the task that pops is my mind helps me to stay focused on the task at hand rather than using brain space to HOPE I don’t forget.
Bible reading/Devotion/Prayer/Journaling - This section of my morning routine is the most important part of starting my day off right. This has also evolved over the years. I always read my Bible and pray. The combination of journaling and other devotional books varies through what season I am in and what I am feeling led to do.
Get ready - I find it is best to get myself completely dressed and ready to walk out the door before I worry about getting anyone else ready.
Make my bed and straighten my room and bathroom - I take about 5 minutes to make my bed and straighten up the bathroom. This can be interchangeable with the next step according to whether or not my little girl has found her way into my bed early in the morning. Leaving in the mornings with my bedroom and bathroom picked up is definitely ideal!
Get my daughter ready for school and out the door - If I am fully ready for the day, it usually only takes me a few minutes to get my 6 year old dressed and ready to eat a little breakfast and get out the door. She wakes up pretty easily and doesn’t require a lot of time before she’s ready to head to school. In my evening routine I get her lunch ready and clothes laid out for the next day. This makes it really simple to have her out the door quickly. We take the time in the car line in the mornings to pray and finish the breakfast I beg and sing and play games to get her to finish. (My son wanted a full breakfast, but getting a few bites in her is not easy!)
This is my morning routine! I do try to allow some margin for things to go awry. I find that if I allow it, things stay pretty calm. Isn’t that the way things works out! I hope this will give you some ideas for making your morning more simple and calm.
