Where Do I Start? I’m Overwhelmed With Clutter!

On INSTAGRAM I opened it up to your questions and this is one I received several different ways. Life is busy and I know most of us do not have days or even weeks to take off work and go through our entire home at once. So what can we do today to get started with decluttering our home?

Here are 3 easy steps you can take today!

  1. Start with a nightly pickup. This will get you and family started with a routine to maintain your home. This will help you to quickly see your spots where clutter piles up on a daily basis. This might take a little bit of time the first few nights you do it, but as you continue with this routine it will get easier and take less time.

  2. Deal with clutter on your most used surfaces. Are there piles on your kitchen counters? Go though these things and decide if you still need them. If they need to stay, find a home for them.

  3. Choose a cabinet, drawer, or closet that you frequent and start there. If you drink coffee each morning and every time you open the cabinet with your coffee mugs feels like a bad start to your day, start there! Pull all the cups out (and anything else that has made that cabinet its home.) Unless you have a curated coffee cup collection, determine how many you need and use and let the rest go. You will start each morning with a fresh start!
Then move on to the next spot!

You can find my blog post on how I systematically move through my home every 6 months HERE. And if you are just in a really overwhelmed phase of life, check THIS blog post out!

These simple steps are a great way for you to get started and rid your home of clutter. A clutter free home is a great way to lessen the overwhelm we can feel and add margin for the good things to your life!
