Eat That Frog: Clarify Your Goals
Have you ever read the book Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy? If not, I highly recommend you grab a copy HERE. My original plan was to share some highlights from the book, but I quickly realized I needed to create an entire blog post and video on the first chapter. This chapter is all about how to clarify your goals. So let’s dive in!
Clarity is perhaps the most important concept in personal productivity. We need to be absolutely clear about our goals and objectives.
Step 1 - Decide exactly what you want?
What wall do you want to lean your ladder against? What do you want for you life?
Step 2 - Write it down.
You know I believe this for almost everything. Written words are a reminder to us and they require us to be completely clear about our goals. If they are not written it is easy to be vague and confused about what we really want.
Step 3 - Set a deadline.
When will you accomplish this by? You can even set sub deadlines. Little goals within your goal. By creating a deadline you give yourself responsibility to meet your goal.
Step 4 - Make a list of everything you can think of that you are going to need to reach your goal.
Don’t let this be a cop out, but what do you actually need? Gathering these supplies can be the first step in your goal. Give yourself a deadline. Many times we don’t really need anything to get started.
Step 5 - Organize the list into a plan.
What is priority? What needs to be done first? What is your plan of action to accomplish your goal?
Step 6 - Take action immediately.
Do something right now to move toward your goal.
“An average plan vigorously executed is far better than a brilliant plan on which nothing is done.”
Step 7 - Resolve to do something every single day that moves you toward your major goal.
This might be the most important step. By doing something everyday you are doing 2 things #1 and the most important (in my opinion) is you are keeping this goal in your face, every day. You are thinking on it every day. #2 is you are bound to make forward progress by taking even the smallest action every day.
The reality is, if we start today, we will be further along in one month from now than if we just do nothing.
What are the action steps you can take now? Sit down and write down up to 10 ideas or goals you would like to see in your life. Now pick one of those to focus on. Just one!
If one of your goals involves minimizing and decluttering your home, I encourage you to join our private group on Facebook. We are systematically going through our homes together. This group opens back up next week, but you can join the waiting list HERE.
If you have a goal and need someone to help you with defining it and creating a plan, I can help! You can hire me for an hour or we can set up a plan to meet every week to work on your plan. Check that out HERE.
