How To Stop Forgetting and Start Remembering To Do Things

We know some things are important, but yet we can forget.

I recently put a question box in my Instagram stories asking about the things we forget to do. These are the responses I received (most I received more than once):

  • Taking care of my nails

  • Clean out the fridge

  • Meal plan

  • Charge the iPads before services (piano player)

  • Buy groceries

  • Exercise

  • Take dinner out of the freezer

  • Run errands

  • Check bank account/Budget

  • Pay bills

  • Pulling trash to the curb on trash day

  • Prayer and Bible Reading

  • Neglecting myself

  • Doing something for myself - like a hobby

I found this so interesting because each of these are things that have been on my list of things I forget to do at some point in my life.

Interestingly enough - I have a routine in place for almost every one of these.

So what are some ways we quit forgetting important things? Here are 4 ideas for helping us to remember to get these things done.

  1. Schedule it. If we don’t plan it, it likely won’t happen. I use my calendar to mark off times that I need to do certain things. We have an event coming up and I know my son needs a haircut. While we can walk in to our local barber shop, I set an appointment on my calendar so I don’t forget. Give yourself priority of your time and make appointments for things you need to get done.

  2. Create a routine. So many of the things on this list are in my weekend routine. Creating a routine is my favorite way to remember to do those things that I often forget. You can find more on my weekend routine HERE.

  3. Set a reminder. I love using the reminders app on my iPhone. I use this to create an ongoing list of things I need to do. I will also set up reoccurring reminders for things that I do on a regular basis.

  4. Put it in front of you. Use a planner and look at it multiple times a day. Write on your bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker. Put a sticky note somewhere you see often. Putting our list in front of us is a great way to remember things.

As always, I go more in depth on this subject on YouTube. You can find this video HERE.
