Digital Declutter Challenge: Part 2 Desktop
It’s time for part 2 of our Digital Declutter Challenge! In case you missed it, you can find part 1 HERE. You can also download the guide to this entire challenge HERE.
Today we are decluttering our desktops. Whatever computer you work on, we don’t want to open it up and have our desktop cluttered with dozens of files.
For this challenge we are starting off with our home screen. Step one is to delete unneeded files. What have you saved to your desktop that you no longer need?
Step 2 is to create folders. Do you have files that you access regularly? For these I have created a folder titled DAILY. This houses files I access at least once a week. Then continue on and group like files into folders. Only leave the folders on your desktop that you need to often access. Any other folders can be moved to a different section of your computer (for me this is my cloud that I access under Finder.) You can go a step further by putting a favorite photo or graphic as background.
For Step 3 we are going to clean up our cloud. Maybe you don’t use a cloud based storage system, you can use this time to clean up where your documents are stored. What needs to be deleted?
Step 4 is to delete apps. What apps or programs have you added that you no longer use. These can take up quite a bit of space on our computers.
The final step is to choose one singular place to store your documents. Do you want to use Apple’s iCloud? Or maybe you prefer to keep your documents on Google Drive. Finding one place to store these makes locating a document much much easier.
