Digital Declutter Challenge: Part 1 Photos

Digital clutter can add up quickly! Today we are diving into our new series - The Digital Declutter Challenge. For this first segment, we will be focusing on our photos.

Before we get started, here is a guide to walk you through this entire series: DIGITAL DECLUTTER CHECKLIST

When I was a teen, we didn’t have access to digital photography. I knew that I only had 21 chances to get a good photo with my little camera. Today I might have 400 photos of a kid’s birthday party. This can be so overwhelming! My biggest tip is to break this into manageable segments. When I started this, I decided to start right where I was. For the current month I took these steps. Then I went on to the previous month and so on. I’ve worked my way back to 2020 and am now in 2019. It takes a while, but it’s so worth it!

Here a few simple steps you can take to minimize your digital photo clutter:

  1. Minimize apps. Choose just one app you are going to store your photos in.

  2. Delete your duplicate photos. If you have multiple photos of the same shot, choose the best one and delete the rest.

  3. Delete unwanted photos. What photos do you no longer need or no longer want?

  4. Move your photos to folders. I move the photos I want to use in my annual photo album into a photo for that year. I also have other albums for project I’m working on or things that are work related. Choose albums that make sense to you.

  5. Order a photo book. This is my favorite part! Once you have moved your favorite pics for a year into a folder for that year, ordering a photo book is super simple! My current favorite app for this is Popsa. Visit popsa.com and use Shelley Coon when you check out save $30 on your photo book! This app is so easy to navigate. And because you are using photos that already exist on your phone, you can do this anywhere! I once created an entire photo book on a plane ride with no internet service.

That’s it! Now you have conquered the photo digital clutter in your life!

Be on the lookout for part 2 in this series!
