September Minimalism Challenge

Last year we did a Minimalism Challenge in September over on Instagram and you loved it!

September is a great time to do a quick refresh. This summer was very full for us and I know I have some closets and cupboards that need a little extra attention.

Today I just want to share with you an overview of what to expect.

  1. This is not a challenge that will cover your entire home. We are just focusing on a few small areas. But these little areas make a big difference!

  2. This is not a challenge that will minimize your entire home. Doing a full home declutter takes time, but this can get you started. Or if you have been on this journey for a long time, this is a great refresh!

  3. These tasks will take 15 minutes or less. But feel free to go longer and do more!

  4. These will be simple things, but simple things make a big difference.

  5. We will have a new challenge each weekday. Use the weekend to catch up if you miss a day!

Here are some examples:

Day 1 is the nightstand. This is a space that you might not think much about. But we see this space each night before we go to sleep and each morning when we wake up. Taking 5 minutes to remove the things that no longer belong here will make a daily impact.

One day we will be address a kitchen drawer. You can just pick one drawer. Maybe it’s the one that you get frustrated with because your spatula won’t fit. Choose a drawer that will make a difference for you. By changing this one drawer it will likely inspire you to move on to another drawer.

Now, let’s talk about the “5 Thing Rule.” If you don’t have time to completely revamp a space, just quickly remove 5 things from the space. If you do all 22 days of this challenge, you will have removed 110 things from your home! That’s a lot!

The final thing I would like to discuss is this, make a donation plan. Some of the things you remove might be trash. But take the time before the challenge begins to decide where you will put your donation box or bag. I love using Trader Joe’s bags for my donation items. I keep a bag in the bottom of my upstairs linen closet. The entire family knows where the bag is. You can also keep a bag in your car. Once it fills up, drop it off at your favorite charity!

I am excited about this challenge. I would love for you to join us on Instagram this month. It’s a lot of fun when we do it together! Be sure to tag me in your posts and stories, even if you do some of these when September is over! Each time you share, you are an inspiration to someone else!
