There’s An App For That! And It’s Free!

Do you ever think of that task you need to get done and then it pops right back out of your head? Or your kid says, “Hey Mom! We’re out of cereal!” and you don’t have your grocery list close by? Today I want to share with you some quick tips for using your Notes and Reminders apps that come already loaded on your iphone. These apps save me from forgetting so many things.

I am an Apple girl, so I have a MacBook and an iPad. Because of the cloud, I can also access these apps on my other devices. But even if you just have an iPhone (or another phone that offers something similar) I believe these tips will help you.

Notes:

I use the notes app to use anything that I will need quick access to on the go. Here are some ideas for what I keep there:

  • Christmas idea list.

  • Work notes - I also keep Zoom links here with the passwords saved so I can easily copy and paste them into the app.

  • Doctor questions - I don’t know about you, but I can never remember that thing I wanted to ask the doc when I’m sitting in the office. I use this a lot for my kids’ pediatrician. I open up this app and the questions are right there!

  • Restaurants to try

  • Book lists

  • Basically anything I need to get to quickly

  • I even use this to type out a full blog post or an idea I have for a video to do. Then I can copy and paste this into my website.

Reminders:

This app is so great. It allows you have to have different lists and I use them all. I don’t carry my planner everywhere I go, so this is a great way for me to keep up with things on a device that is usually in my hand.

  • Grocery list - These are items I notice we are out of at home and I add it here. I can easily access it at the grocery store. Have you ever ran in a store and knew you needed something but couldn’t remember what? It’s easy to access it here. Or have you ever make a paper list and then left it at home? That is so annoying. By keeping my grocery list here I eliminate that. I even break this down into 3 lists - Grocery, Shopping (miscellaneous items I am keeping my eye out for), and Costco (these are items I know I buy here rather than at another store.) And when I’m placing a grocery pickup or delivery order I can just reference this list to quickly make my order.

  • To do this week - This is probably the most important list. If I’m at church (without my planner) and I think of something I need to come back to do I’ll add it here. Anything that pops in my mind that needs to be done hits this list. Then at the end of the week when I’m planning out next week I will open up this list and use it to create my To Do for the week. This keeps those little tasks that pop into my mind from popping right back out unaccomplished.

  • To do this month - these are things that need to be done soon, but not immediately.

  • To do long term - these are things that I need to be working towards but are not pressing. But I don’t want to forget that they are on my radar.

  • Packing - I keep this list open for when I have a trip upcoming. Let’s say it’s the holidays and I know my next trip is to my in-laws for thanksgiving. I want to remember the Christmas presents so I will add that to the list. Or if we are headed on a trip to a rented condo I might add things like blankets and the coffee maker so I don’t forget those.

  • Anything you need a list for - add it here and its always at your fingertips.

  • Shared lists - my husband and I have a shared list of household projects we want to get done. This is a great way to collaborate on a project.

I know this may seem simple, but I wanted to share this with you in case you are not already utilizing these. They make my life so much easier and I believe they will work for you too!
